Bricklaying, Groundworks And Landscaping In Goole

Goole is an inland port town on the tidal Ouse, laid out largely in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries around the docks and the canal network. It is flat, low-lying and open to the weather, and the ground carries the same drainage-managed character as the surrounding Humberhead levels. That combination, high water, flat land and exposure, decides how brickwork and landscaping should be built here. Surefoot works in Goole and the surrounding villages from its Doncaster base.

Surefoot Brickwork Ltd is based in Doncaster: around twenty miles north-east of our Doncaster base. Everything below applies to work we carry out in Goole and the surrounding area.

A short run east

Goole is around twenty miles north-east of our Doncaster base along the M18 and M62. It is an easy journey and a regular working area for us, and we survey every job before pricing it.

Coverage around the town

We work in Goole and the surrounding area including Old Goole, Hook, Airmyn, Rawcliffe, Snaith, Howden and Thorne. We do not publish a guaranteed response time; call us and we will tell you honestly what our diary allows.

Property types we work on here

Victorian dock-era brick terraces, interwar and post-war estate housing, twentieth-century semis and bungalows, and modern developments on the edges of the town and in the surrounding villages.

What Goole clients ask for most

Drainage and levels work on gardens that hold water; patios and driveways built to shed water on flat ground; boundary walling on exposed plots where fencing keeps failing; brick repair and repointing on weathered dock-era terraces; and full garden transformations.

Local conditions

What Catches People Out In Goole

Property age, ground conditions, drainage and exposure differ from town to town. These are the issues we see most often on Goole projects, and the reason we survey before we price.

  • Low ground and a high water table

Goole sits very low. Groundwater close to the surface makes soakaways unreliable and excavation wetter and slower than a drawing suggests. Drainage has to be designed to a discharge route that genuinely exists on your plot.

  • Wind exposure across open country

There is little shelter here, and free-standing structures take the full load. Fence panels fail repeatedly; masonry walls need adequate footings, correctly spaced piers and a coping that keeps water out of the top of the wall.

  • Salt, damp and weathered dock-era brick

Older terraces near the docks have taken well over a century of damp and wind-driven rain. Where the lower courses stay saturated and the pointing has been done in hard cement, the brick face spalls. Correct mortar and correct ground levels around the wall are the fix.

  • Flat plots that will not drain themselves

On level ground, falls have to be built in deliberately. Any new patio or driveway laid flat will hold water, and standing water on a flat plot in winter is what breaks joints, lifts blocks and rots edges.

Questions

Goole: Answered Straight

Anything not covered here, call Michael on +44 7856 247499 and ask.

Do you cover Goole?
Yes: Goole and the surrounding area including Old Goole, Hook, Airmyn, Rawcliffe, Snaith, Howden and Thorne.
How quickly can you get to Goole?
It is around twenty miles from our base along the M18 and M62. Travel is short; our diary decides the start date and we will be honest about it.
How much does the work cost in Goole?
Every quote is tailored after a site visit, because drainage requirements and ground conditions affect the price more than the finish does.
My garden holds water all winter: can that be solved?
In most cases yes, but only after establishing where the water can discharge to. We survey the levels and the ground before proposing anything.
Why do my fences keep blowing over?
Exposed, open country puts heavy wind loading on free-standing structures. A masonry wall with proper footings, pier spacing and a coping ends the recurring replacement.
Can you repair weathered brickwork on an older terrace?
Yes: repair, rebuild and repointing with a mortar matched to the brick, rather than a hard cement mix that would make the spalling worse.
Do you take on emergency repairs in Goole?
Yes, including storm and impact damage. Send photographs and we will tell you realistically when we can attend.
Are you insured?
Yes: £2,000,000 public liability and £10,000,000 employers' liability cover.
Is the work guaranteed?
Yes: a 2-year workmanship guarantee, with a 10-year warranty available on request.
Do you work for builders in the East Riding?
Yes. We hold CSCS, SSSTS, NVQ Level 6 and NHBC Masterclass accreditation and take on trade as well as domestic work.
