Overview

Landscaping In Doncaster And Across South Yorkshire

Most disappointing gardens are not badly designed; they are badly joined. A patio laid by one firm, walls by another and levels by a third produces a space where nothing quite lines up and nobody is responsible for the parts in between. Surefoot builds gardens the way we build extensions: one team from the excavation to the last coping, across Doncaster and South Yorkshire.

What the service covers

Site clearance and level changes, drainage, retaining and feature walling, patios and terraces, paths and driveways, steps, raised beds and planters, turfing and planting areas, fencing and gate posts, plus built-in features including outdoor kitchens, firepits and sunken trampolines.

Who it is for

Homeowners with a garden that is unusable, too steep, too wet, too tired, and households finishing an extension who need the outside brought up to the same standard as the new inside.

When it is needed

After building work has changed the levels, when a slope makes most of the garden dead space, when drainage leaves the lawn waterlogged for months, and when the existing hard landscaping has failed and patching it no longer makes sense.

Why professional help matters

A garden is a drainage and retaining problem before it is a design problem. Levels, water management, footings for walls and structures, and the sequencing of trades are what decide whether the finished space works, and those are groundworks and masonry decisions.

What it costs to get wrong

The Damage Starts Where Nobody Is Looking

Landscaping is where the most money is wasted on a house, because the failures are structural but the pricing is often treated as cosmetic.

  • Standing water and unusable lawn

Where levels and drainage are not addressed first, water collects at the lowest point, often against the house. The lawn turns to mud for half the year and the new patio is unusable for the same period.

  • Retaining structures built as decoration

Terracing walls built without adequate footings or drainage behind them bulge and fail. When they go, they take the terrace, the paving and often the planting with them.

  • Trades that do not join up

A paving firm that will not touch the walling, a fencer who works to a different level, a groundworker long gone by the time the discrepancy shows. You end up coordinating it, and paying for the overlaps.

  • The common mistakes we get called to correct

Buying a design without checking what it costs to build, laying paving before drainage, ignoring how the garden will be used in February as well as July, and installing features like firepits or outdoor kitchens as afterthoughts with no base, no services and no fire separation.

Our process

Five Steps From Enquiry To Guaranteed Handover

  1. 01

    Enquiry and brief

Tell us how you want to use the space and send photographs. What matters most is how the garden fails you now, that shapes everything.

  2. 02

Site visit, levels and drainage survey

We take levels, assess soil, drainage and access, and work out what is structurally required before anybody talks about materials.

  3. 03

    Design and tailored written quote

A layout worked around how you actually use the space, with a written price built on the real scope: bespoke garden design is included as part of our landscaping projects.

  4. 04

    Build in the correct sequence

Clearance, levels and drainage, then structures and walling, then paving, then features and soft landscaping, sequenced so nothing finished gets damaged by what follows.

  5. 05

    Handover inspection and guarantee

We walk the whole garden with you, sign it off together, and back it with a 2-year workmanship guarantee, with a 10-year warranty available on request.

What you get

Specific Outcomes, Not Vague Promises

One contractor, one guarantee

Groundworks, masonry, paving and features under a single team and a single written workmanship guarantee.

Structural work done first

Levels, drainage and retaining structures resolved before the visible finishes go on, which is what makes a garden last.

Usable in more than one season

Drainage, hard surfaces and features planned so the garden works in poor weather, not just in July.

Masonry-grade features

Outdoor kitchens, firepits and seating built in brick and block by bricklayers rather than assembled from kit parts.

Insured and accredited

£2,000,000 public liability, £10,000,000 employers' liability, CSCS, SSSTS, NVQ Level 6 and NHBC Masterclass.

Tidy while it happens

Access routes planned, spoil managed and the site kept in order, with a directly employed team of eleven rather than a rotating cast of subcontractors.

In detail

Materials, Methods And Where They Apply

A full transformation is several trades stacked in the right order. These are the elements that make up most of our landscaping projects.

Levels and drainage

Reduced dig and regrading, retaining structures to create usable terraces, land drainage where the ground holds water, soakaways sized to the areas they serve, and channel drainage across paved surfaces.

Hard landscaping

Natural stone and porcelain patios, block and clay paving for paths and driveways, steps and level changes, brick and stone edging, and permeable build-ups where infiltration is the correct solution.

Masonry structures

Retaining walls, boundary and feature walling, raised beds and planters, seating walls, piers and gate posts, and brick or block bases for garden buildings, all founded on proper footings.

Built-in features

Outdoor kitchens with masonry carcassing and worktops, firepits and fire tables, sunken trampolines excavated, drained and edged flush, plus conduit runs for lighting, power and water laid before surfacing.

Soft landscaping

Topsoil, turfing and seeded areas, planting beds prepared and edged, and membrane and decorative aggregate zones where low maintenance matters more than lawn.

Domestic and commercial grounds

Most of our landscaping is domestic. For commercial premises, developers and communal areas we work to programme with the accreditation set main contractors require, and design for higher traffic and lower maintenance.

Questions

Landscaping: Answered Straight

Anything not covered here, call Michael on +44 7856 247499 and ask.

How much does landscaping cost in Doncaster?
A garden transformation is priced on scope: level changes, drainage, retaining structures, paved area, materials and features. We visit, survey the levels and produce a written price tailored to your project rather than a generic per-square-metre figure.
How long does a garden transformation take?
It depends on the amount of groundwork and structural work involved. You get a realistic programme in writing with your quote, based on what we found on site.
Do you provide the design as well as the build?
Yes. Bespoke garden design is included as part of our landscaping projects, worked around how you actually use the space.
Can you fix a garden that floods?
Yes. Drainage and levels are where we start on almost every project, because no surface finish survives standing water.
Can you build outdoor kitchens, firepits and sunken trampolines?
Yes, all three are built in-house as part of a landscaping scheme, in masonry rather than kit form, with services and drainage designed in.
Is landscaping work guaranteed?
Yes: a 2-year workmanship guarantee across the project, with a 10-year warranty available on request.
Are you insured?
Yes: £2,000,000 public liability and £10,000,000 employers' liability cover.
Will you clear the old garden away?
Yes. Clearance and disposal are included in the scope and stated in the written quote.
Can you work around an extension that is being built?
Yes, and it is usually the sensible sequence. Because we also do groundworks and brickwork, we can tie the external levels into the new build correctly.
Which areas do you landscape in?
Doncaster, Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Scunthorpe, Leeds, Wakefield, York, Pontefract, Worksop, Selby and Goole.
