Local conditions
Property age, ground conditions, drainage and exposure differ from town to town. These are the issues we see most often on Sheffield projects, and the reason we survey before we price.
Sheffield's gradients mean many gardens rely on retaining structures, and many of those were built as decoration rather than as structures. Without drainage behind the wall, saturated ground pushes on masonry that was never designed to carry it: the wall bows, then it fails, taking the terrace above with it.
Rear gardens reached only through a house or a shared ginnel change how a job is done and what it costs. Materials come in by hand, spoil goes out the same way, and machine size is limited. It is a survey question, not a phone-quote question.
