Overview

Outdoor Kitchens In Doncaster And Across South Yorkshire

Flat-pack outdoor kitchens are furniture. They sit on paving that was never designed to carry them, swell and delaminate in the wet, and look tired after two seasons. Surefoot builds outdoor kitchens as masonry structures, the same way we build a wall: a founded base, a block carcass, a faced finish and services run in conduit before the surfacing is laid.

What the service covers

Base and foundation, block and brick carcassing, apertures for grills, hobs, pizza ovens, fridges and storage, worktop bedding and fixing, chimney and flue support where required, conduit for power and lighting, water supply and waste, and the surrounding paving, walling and seating that make the space usable.

Who it is for

Households who already cook and entertain outdoors and are tired of dragging a barbecue out of a shed, and homeowners planning a landscaping scheme who want the kitchen built into it rather than parked on top of it.

When it is needed

As part of a garden transformation, alongside a new patio while the ground is already open, or when an existing outdoor cooking area has no shelter, no worktop, no power and nowhere to put anything down.

Why professional help matters

An outdoor kitchen combines masonry, heat, electricity and water in a space that freezes in winter. Foundations, fire separation around appliances, weathering of worktops and correctly installed, protected services are what separate a structure that lasts from one that becomes an expensive garden ornament.

What it costs to get wrong

The Damage Starts Where Nobody Is Looking

Outdoor kitchens fail in predictable ways, and almost all of them trace back to what was underneath and what was left out.

  • Built on paving instead of foundations

A masonry kitchen is heavy. Set it on a patio bed rather than a founded base and it settles unevenly, cracking the carcass and the worktop joints within a couple of years.

  • Water and frost damage

Timber or unprotected board carcassing, unsealed worktop edges and no fall on the surfaces means water sits, penetrates and then freezes. The structure delaminates from the inside.

  • Services added later

Retro-fitting power or water after the paving is down means lifting it, chasing it, and never quite hiding the route. Extension leads trailed across a wet garden are the alternative, and they are dangerous.

  • The common mistakes we get called to correct

No fire separation around grills and pizza ovens, appliances specified after the apertures are built, no drainage from the sink area, and worktops fixed with no allowance for thermal movement.

Our process

Five Steps From Enquiry To Guaranteed Handover

  1. 01

    Brief and appliance schedule

We start with what you will actually cook on and what has to fit, grill, hob, pizza oven, fridge, sink, storage, because every aperture is built to real appliance dimensions.

  2. 02

    Site visit and services check

Levels, base position, sunlight and wind direction, plus routes for power, water and waste, all assessed before the design is fixed.

  3. 03

    Tailored written quote

Priced on the actual structure, worktop material and services required, with the scope written down clearly.

  4. 04

    Found, build and fit

Concrete base, block carcass with correct openings and fire separation, faced in brick or stone, conduit and pipework installed and protected, worktops bedded and sealed, then the surrounding paving completed.

  5. 05

    Handover inspection and guarantee

We walk the finished kitchen with you, check apertures, falls and finishes together, and back the work with a 2-year workmanship guarantee, with a 10-year warranty available on request.

What you get

Specific Outcomes, Not Vague Promises

Founded like a building

A concrete base sized for the structure, so nothing settles, cracks or twists under the weight of masonry and stone worktops.

Weathers the winter

Masonry carcassing, sealed worktops and falls that shed water, rather than board and timber that swells.

Services designed in, not chased in

Power, lighting, water and waste run in conduit before surfacing, so nothing is trailed across the garden.

Built to your appliances

Apertures set out to the actual units you are buying, so the fit is clean and serviceable.

Matches the house and the garden

Faced in brick or stone chosen against your property, by bricklayers who lay it every day.

Guaranteed and insured

2-year workmanship guarantee, 10-year warranty available on request, £2m public liability and £10m employers' liability.

In detail

Materials, Methods And Where They Apply

Outdoor kitchens are built from a small number of decisions that have a large effect on cost and longevity.

Structure and materials

Reinforced concrete base, dense concrete block carcassing, facing brick, natural stone or rendered finishes, and stainless fixings throughout. Non-combustible construction around heat sources as a matter of course.

Worktops

Granite, porcelain and engineered stone suited to outdoor exposure, bedded on a level, supported deck with sealed joints, drip edges and falls so water runs off rather than sitting in a seam.

Appliances and apertures

Built-in gas and charcoal grills, side burners, pizza ovens, ceramic egg-style cookers, under-counter fridges, sinks and storage drawers, each with the aperture, ventilation and clearance the manufacturer requires.

Services

Armoured cable routes and socket positions for a qualified electrician to terminate, water supply and waste runs to a drainage point, and lighting conduit for task and ambient lighting. Notifiable electrical and gas work is completed by appropriately qualified trades.

Layouts and variations

Straight runs against a wall, L-shaped and U-shaped configurations, island units with a bar overhang and seating, and combined schemes with a firepit, pergola base or seating wall alongside.

Domestic and hospitality use

Domestic kitchens are sized around family cooking and entertaining. Pub, hotel and hospitality installations need heavier duty appliances, more robust worktops, greater clearance and a construction that stands up to daily commercial use: a different specification of the same masonry approach.

Questions

Outdoor kitchens: Answered Straight

Anything not covered here, call Michael on +44 7856 247499 and ask.

How much does an outdoor kitchen cost in Doncaster?
Cost is driven by size, worktop material, appliance schedule and how far the services have to run. Every outdoor kitchen is quoted after a site visit and tailored to the actual specification.
How long does it take to build?
Most outdoor kitchens are a matter of days once the base has cured, but the surrounding paving and services affect the overall programme. You get a realistic timescale in writing.
Can it be built onto my existing patio?
Only if the existing construction can carry it, which we assess on site. In most cases a dedicated founded base is the right answer, and we will tell you honestly which applies.
Will it survive winter?
That is what masonry construction is for. Block and brick carcassing, sealed stone worktops and falls that shed water are chosen specifically for year-round outdoor exposure.
Do you supply the appliances?
We build to the appliances specified for the project. Tell us what you are buying, or what you want to achieve, and the apertures and clearances are built to suit them.
Can you run power and water to it?
Yes. Conduit, cable and pipework routes are installed as part of the build, with notifiable electrical and gas connections completed by appropriately qualified trades.
How long will an outdoor kitchen last?
A founded masonry structure with a stone or porcelain worktop is a long-term addition to the garden, not a seasonal purchase. Appliances will be replaced long before the structure is.
Is the work guaranteed?
Yes: a 2-year workmanship guarantee, with a 10-year warranty available on request.
Are you insured?
Yes: £2,000,000 public liability and £10,000,000 employers' liability cover.
Which areas do you build outdoor kitchens in?
Doncaster, Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Scunthorpe, Leeds, Wakefield, York, Pontefract, Worksop, Selby and Goole.
